How Does Ford Decide on a Blue or Gold CPO Vehicle?

In order to be considered for Blue Certified, the vehicle must be within the last 10 model years and have no more than 120,000 miles on its odometer. This means that Ford will consider models from 2013 on up. This means that more vehicles are part of the Blue Advantage program than for any other automaker.

Inspections That Score Points

To be considered for the Ford Blue Advantage program, a vehicle must undergo an inspection by a certified Ford mechanic. The one for the Gold Advantage is slightly more comprehensive than for Blue Advantage. The Gold Advantage requires a 172-point inspection, while Blue Advantage Ford vehicles require a 139-point inspection.

The two inspections are the same when it comes to certain areas. For example, the diagnostics, underhood, and convenience portions are identical. Similarly, if you are looking at a CPO Ford electric vehicle or hybrid, both Gold and Blue have the same 15 additional inspection points.

The difference between the two plans when it comes to inspection arises in vehicle history, road test, exterior, interior, and underbody. When it comes to vehicle history, both will require that any open service recalls be completed, but Gold goes a step further with completing all scheduled maintenance and state emissions testing. Similarly, there are 6 additional points on the road test, 6 additional exterior inspection points, 13 more interior inspection points, and 5 more underbody checks on the Gold Certified. So, you will be getting a more thoroughly inspected Ford model if you opt for the Gold Certified program. Nevertheless, both should provide you with piece of mind that you are getting a used Ford in the best condition possible for the specific model based on age and mileage.

Warranty Coverage That Won’t Leave You Feeling Blue
