  • Overview

It’s the Mustang Mach-E’s sophomore year, and it’s coming off a launch that produced plenty of accolades from the automotive press, including Car and Driver’s first-ever EV of the Year award. The model was such a hit that Ford made very few changes for the new 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E, but its early success certainly bodes well for the future of electric vehicles.

New for 2022 is a special edition called the Ice White Edition. The Mustang Mach-E lineup consists of four distinctly different trims, including the economical Select and the lightning-fast GT Performance Edition. Ford builds in a healthy range to quell buyers’ concerns about finding charging stations on long road trips, and the crossover body still permits ample cargo stowage even with a full house of passengers.

The Mach-E’s cabin features a futuristic minimalist dash and a prominent portrait-mounted touchscreen that acts as the driver’s information hub and a portal for accessing smartphone entertainment content. Buyers will love the high-end luxury appointments found across the trim range, as well as the abundant driver-assist safety technology. With up to 480 horsepower and 634 lb-ft of torque, the Mustang Mach-E has the goods.

  • Range

As consumers adapt to an electrified future, it’s helpful to point out some key differences between EVs and gas-powered vehicles. Namely, the concept of driving range. It’s one of the most important considerations when shopping for and comparing EVs. The Mustang Mach-E lineup includes models that can achieve between 211 miles (Standard Range AWD) and 305 miles (Extended Range RWD).

Range is affected by a variety of factors, including the drive train. The Mustang Mach-E comes with either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Rear-wheel drive versions deliver the longest range, so a slight dip in miles per charge is typical with a heavier AWD setup. Also, output drains a battery faster, so the high-powered GT and GT Performance Mustang Mach-E models won’t travel quite as far on a single charge.

    Living the EV Life

The good news is, even the Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition’s shorter 260-mile range is plenty for most drivers. Daily commuters will find the California Route 1 trim’s 305-mile range especially appealing. The added bonus is that even the most sedate Mustang Mach-E will take you from zero to sixty in a scant 6.1 seconds. In short, it’s usually a balance between performance and range, but luckily, automakers like Ford don’t force drivers to choose.

Here are the stats for the 2022 Mustang Mach-E lineup:

    • Select - 230 miles RWD and 211 miles AWD
    • California Route 1 - 305 miles RWD and 300 miles AWD
    • Premium Standard Range - 230 miles RWD and 211 miles AWD
    • Premium Extended Range - 300 miles RWD and 270 miles AWD
    • GT - 270 miles AWD
    • GT Performance Edition - 260 miles AWD

    Freedom to Roam

Range and performance shouldn’t be a give-and-take – most EVs possess an inverse relationship between the two, meaning the more range you get, the less performance you can expect (and vice versa). Not so with the dynamic 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E. The lineup lets customers dial in the ideal amount of both for a customized driving experience that meets their individual lifestyle needs and driving habits.

  • Performance

In true Mustang fashion, the newest model to share Ford’s iconic pony car nameplate delivers big on performance. The fastest model in the lineup, the GT Performance Edition, achieves a zero-to-sixty time of just 3.5 seconds, thanks to 480 horsepower and a whopping 634 lb-ft of instantly-available torque. The GT Performance Edition also features standard eAWD.

    Performance Features

Still not enough power? Ford has added a new track-ready Unbridled Extend feature to the 2022 Mach-E GT. It’s a track-only drive mode created by Ford for true performance enthusiasts. Unbridled Extend works by tuning traction control, stability control, and regenerative braking energy recovery for optimal handling during track driving. You won’t find it in any other EV. All of this power derives from an efficient and lightweight 91 kWh battery.

The Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition receives 20-inch aluminum wheels and a set of high-performance Pirelli summer tires. In the cabin, this trim includes perforated ActiveX front bucket seats with Miko inserts and metallic accenting. The seats also feature fixed head restraints designed to support you during high-performance driving maneuvers. The GT Performance Edition also features a MagneRide Damping System for excellent grip and handling during cornering.

    Every Trim is Performance-Ready

Buyers looking on the more affordable end of the trim lineup needn’t worry about sacrificing performance. The base Select all-wheel drive model includes a zero-to-sixty time of just 5.2 seconds, thanks to 266 horsepower and 428 lb-ft of torque. The Mustang Mach-E Select trim is offered in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

Sitting near the top of the lineup, the Mustang Mach-E Premium blends premium luxury features with engaging performance. The Premium offers up to 346 horsepower and 428 lb-ft of torque and a zero-to-sixty time of as little as 4.8 seconds. Upgrade to the Ice White Edition, and your Mustang Mach-E Premium comes in a trim exclusive Star White exterior color and includes 19-inch wheels featuring white pony badging. Even the dashboard receives gloss white accenting.

If comfort and convenience are important to you, it’s worth reviewing the specifications for each of the five Mustang Mach-E trims to ensure the one you buy contains the equipment you want. From the Select on up to the high-end GT Performance Edition, Ford outfits the Mustang Mach-E with plenty of upscale appointments, as well as next-generation technology and driver-assist capabilities.

    Safety Is Standard

All Mustang Mach-E trims come standard Ford Co-Pilot360 2.0, a suite of driver-assist systems designed to keep occupants safe and alert while on the road. The suite features Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, a Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert, a Lane-Keeping System, Auto High-Beam Headlamps, and Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control that includes Stop-and-Go, Lane Centering, and Speed Sign Recognition.

    Interior Options

The Select features an all-black interior with a leather-like ActiveX seating material, a 6-speaker audio system wired for SiriusXM satellite radio, a 15.5-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a wireless charging pad, and a 10.2-inch digital driver display. Storage abounds, with cubbies, consoles, overhead storage, and generously-sized door bin storage areas.

Moving up to the California Route 1 adds memory to the driver’s seat settings, as well as heated front seats and power-folding outside mirrors. A heated steering wheel is included in the price. One of the California Route 1’s most exciting standard features is the panoramic fixed-glass roof, which lets the light in and treats all occupants to an unobstructed view of the sky. BlueCruise hands-free driving is also standard on this trim.

    Premium Features

The Premium trim introduces high-end luxury features like a 9-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system with a subwoofer, multicolor ambient interior lighting, and aluminum scuff plates on the front doors. A hands-free, foot-activated liftgate is also included in the Premium’s list of standard goodies, along with 19-inch high gloss black wheels and an optional set of summer tires. The Premium shares the same 360-degree camera with the California Route 1 trim also.
