For more than 40 years, the Ford F-Series has been America's most popular and best-selling truck due to its incredible design and engineering, making them remarkably powerful. While the Ford F-150 is often seen as the star of the show, if you are looking for something with more power and greater capability, then you owe it to yourself to look at the Super Duty models. In particular, the 2023 Ford F-350 is a fantastic choice if you want a full-size truck that delivers bold power and amazing performance, especially if you are interested in doing some fifth-wheel or gooseneck towing.

The F-350 is one of the most powerful and impressive trucks in the Ford lineup, making it the perfect option if you are looking to get some serious work done. For starters, you have four different engines to choose from when looking at the F-350, making it easy to get exactly the right amount of power for what you need. This includes two gas engines starting with a 405-hp 6.8L V8 and then moving up to a 430-hp 7.3L V8 with greater power and performance. If you prefer a diesel engine, Ford has you covered with two amazing options, including a 6.7L High-Output V8 that delivers 500 hp and a massive 1,200 lb-ft of torque.

All of this power is not just for show because the 2023 Ford F-350 comes through with truly astounding towing capability. This will depend on the engine you choose, but with the right setup, the F-350 can handle up to 28,000 lbs of conventional towing or up to 38,000 lbs of gooseneck towing. All of this power makes it easy for you to get pretty much any job done, plus you have numerous trims available that include some innovative technology inside and out. A pair of available 12-inch displays inside makes it easy to stay in touch on the road and get to where you are going, while the available Pro Power Onboard system lets you use power tools and other equipment at any location.

  • Powerful Engines

A heavy-duty truck like the 2023 Ford F-350 relies on bold engineering to have the kind of strength and power you need in order to get your job done. Some of this comes from how the frame and body are designed and made, and some come from the wheels and axles. But much of the performance of your truck relies on one thing: the engine. You need a powerful engine packed into your pickup to ensure you can handle anything life throws at you and still get to a job site, which is why the four engines for the F-350 are so impressive.

    Gas Engine Options

For starters, you have two options available to you, whether you prefer a standard gas engine or a diesel engine, which is amazing flexibility. On top of that, all four of these engines are among the best you will find in any truck of this class, giving you the kind of power you need and can count on. First, a standard 6.8L V8 gas engine delivers 405 hp and 445 lb-ft of torque, which is a great choice if you want solid performance. You can also choose a 7.3L V8 gas engine that offers boosted performance with 430 hp and 485 lb-ft of torque; this might not be a massive upgrade, but the improvement is still substantial.

    Diesel Engine Options

If you prefer a diesel engine, then Ford has you covered in a way that few other brands can even imagine, as you have two options available. First up, a standard 6.7L Power Stroke V8 Turbo Diesel engine that gives you 475 hp and 1,050 lb-ft of torque—this is amazing power and performance. But if you need even more, there is a 6.7L High-Output Power Stroke V8 Turbo Diesel tuned to deliver 500 hp and an incredible 1,200 lb-ft of torque. This is power that you simply cannot beat, and it gives the F-350 the muscle to tackle anything you throw at it; plus, all four engines come paired with a 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission.

  • Towing

When it comes to the kind of work you can get done with your truck, one of the most important things to consider is how well it can haul weight behind it. Car companies all like to brag and compete about high numbers for towing capacity, and it can seem like they are simply trying to see who can come out on top. In reality, however, these specs directly tie to the kind of real-world capability you can expect, so you deserve a truck that can handle the work you need. The Ford F-350 is an amazing option for towing, surpassing both the F-150 and F-250 models and giving you the muscle to handle pretty much anything you throw at it.

    Consider Your Towing Configurations

It is important to consider both conventional and gooseneck towing, as well as how the four available engines and other configuration options can all impact the towing your truck can handle. There are a lot of different factors to consider, and we would be happy to take you through all of these combinations and discuss the right setup to give you the towing you need. For now, however, we will keep things simple and look at a few examples of impressive towing the F-350 can deliver. With the powerful 7.3L V8 engine, the F-350 can handle up to 22,500 lbs of towing when properly equipped.

The High-Output Turbo-Diesel's Monstrous Towing Capacity

If you look at the High-Output Turbo Diesel engine, you can get even greater results, including up to 28,000 lbs of conventional towing. It is important to note, however, that getting this much capability requires a Dual Rear-Wheel (DRW) configuration rather than a Single Rear-Wheel (SRW) model. The added benefit of choosing an F-350 with a DRW setup is that you can also get truly incredible gooseneck towing capability. A SRW F-350 model with the High-Output engine has up to 27,600 lbs of maximum gooseneck towing; going with a DRW model with the same engine, however, can get you up to 38,000 lbs of gooseneck towing due to the extra support of the added wheels.

  • Technology

One of the best ways to approach looking for your next truck is to take a big-picture view and consider numerous aspects altogether. A powerful engine with towing capacity that meets your needs is vital, but you also want excellent technology that makes your daily routine and job easier. The 2023 F-350 is available in a range of different trim levels with a variety of options available, letting you get the right combination of features to meet your needs.

    Standard Features

For starters, the F-350 XL comes with an 8-inch infotainment display, a four-speaker sound system, and standard air conditioning. It has a 4.2-inch Productivity Screen for you as the driver, along with a standard day/night rearview mirror, vinyl seating, and a basic interior work surface. Available options on the F-350 XL include a wide range of safety features like Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, upfitter switches for greater customization, and Ford's Pro Power Onboard system to let you use your truck to power other equipment.

    Available High-End Features

Looking at a higher trim like the F-350 King Ranch gets you a lot more to take advantage of, starting with a 12-inch infotainment display with navigation, a 12-inch LCD Productivity Screen for you as the driver, and dual-zone electronic automatic temperature control. You get a B&O Unleashed 18-speaker sound system in the King Ranch, eight-way power front seats with heated front and rear seating, power-adjustable pedals, and a full suite of advanced safety features, all included. The King Ranch also comes with the Pro Power Onboard system, making it easy to connect devices and equipment to your truck anywhere. All this comes together to help you get your job done and turn your truck into a mobile office.
