The 2022 Ford Super Duty truck is actually three different models: the F-250, F-350, and F-450. Each one features the same trim levels, as well as the choice of cab configuration, drivetrain, and cargo bed size.
Ford offers the Super Duty with three different cab configurations. A Regular Cab has two full-size doors and one row of seats. The 2022 Ford Super Duty has three different engines available. The base engine on the F-250 and F-350 is a 6.2-liter Flex-Fuel V8 gas engine. Dubbed the "Boss," the engine has a single overhead cam design and can produce 385 horsepower while generating 430 pound-feet of torque. The first of the two optional engines is a 7.3-liter pushrod V8 gas engine that has been labeled "Godzilla" for its size and power. This upgraded engine can produce up to 430 horsepower and generate 475 pound-feet of torque.
The second available engine is a 6.7-liter Power Stroke Turbo-Diesel V8. While an option on the F-250 and F-350, this is the only engine offered on the F-450 Super Duty. Ford has equipped this engine with an electric-actuated variable-geometry turbocharger to improve efficiency and throttle response. This engine also features a 36,000-psi fuel-injection system that atomizes fuel to optimize engine combustion. As a result, this engine can produce up to 475 horsepower and generate an amazing 1,050 pounds to feet of torque. One thing to note is that this engine can produce maximum torque at just 1600 rpm for an incredible towing experience.
The Ford Super Duty F-250 models with the 6.2-liter Boss V8 feature a TorqShift 6-speed automatic transmission. This transmission is designed to maximize torque even at lower gears. All other engines on the Super Duty feature a TorqShift 10-speed automatic transmission. This transmission was designed specifically for the Super Duty engines, with the goal of optimizing drive ratios and improving shift performance to give you greater control over your truck. This transmission also features five different drive modes: normal, slippery, tow-haul, eco, and deep sand/snow. If you choose to equip your 2022 Ford Super Duty with the Tremor off-road package, you will also get an extra Rock Crawl mode.
One of the main reasons many folks choose to buy a Ford Super Duty is its exceptional towing capabilities. If you choose a 2022 Ford F-250 with a 6.2-liter Boss V8, it can tow up to 15,800 pounds. Opting for the available 7.3-liter Godzilla V8 will increase this number to 19,500 pounds. If you want to maximize towing, then you should choose the 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8, which will allow you to tow up to 22,800 pounds behind your F-250.
The larger 2022 F-350 has even greater towing capability. The F-350 with the 6.2-liter Boss V8 can tow up to 16,700 pounds, while the 7.3-liter Godzilla V8 boosts this number to 21,200 pounds. Again, the maximum towing capacity is found with the optional Turbo Diesel, which will allow your F-350 to tow up to 35,750 pounds of trailer.
When it comes to towing, nothing can surpass the 2022 Ford F-450 Super Duty with its standard 6.7-liter Power Stroke Turbo-Diesel V8. This model can tow up to an incredible 37,000 pounds.
The 2022 Ford Super Duty is also a great choice if you are looking to carry cargo in your bed. The F-250 with the Godzilla V8 can carry up to 4,260 pounds, while choosing the optional Turbo-Diesel drops this number slightly to 3,940 pounds. The F-350 can carry up to 7,850 pounds of its cargo in its dual-rear-wheel configuration, while the larger F-450 actually has a slightly lower payload capacity of 6,210 pounds because of its standard diesel engine.
Ford gives you a choice of two different payload box sizes. The 6.75-foot standard box can fit up to 65.4 cubic feet of cargo, while the 8-foot extended box provides room for up to 78.5 cubic feet of space. The Regular Cab is only offered with the extended box, but the SuperCab and Crew Cab can be had with either option.
