Newton Awards Scholarship to Student

Last year, the leadership of Newton Chevrolet Buick GMC & Newton Ford of Newton Motor Group discussed how to be more involved in the community. Our sister stores, Newton Nissan of Gallatin, and Newton Nissan South in Shelbyville, host annual Student Car Giveaways, but we wanted to do something different.

So the idea of a student scholarship to a local, Bedford County senior heading to college in Fall 2020, was born.

And on May 8th, 2020, this became a reality. While we originally planned to make this a special event with a catered meal, with COVID-19, we pivoted to a Zoom conference call to keep everyone safe & healthy.

Ten students were nominated by Bedford County school leadership, and are all going to colleges in the fall. We took the time to celebrate each student’s success at their school, as well as their hopes for their future education, before drawing the winner, who was Kat Pugh, student at the Webb School, who is attending the University of Alabama this fall. She will be debt free for her first year of college thanks to the Newton scholarship.
