Anticipation Builds for the 2023 Ford F-150

As eager Ford fans await news of the latest F-150’s arrival, we’ve managed to gather some information regarding what we expect for the 2023 Ford F-150. While there are definitely still some unknowns, and hopefully some unexpected surprises, what we do know is already pretty great. What we can look forward to for sure are technology updates, a wide array of options, and even some new choices for the Ford pickup driver who wants to walk on the wild side. With that in mind, let’s dive right into what we know.

Multiple Engine Options

While it isn’t news that the Ford F-150 comes with several engine options, it is the first time that Ford has offered an F-150 with a hybrid powertrain. All of the engine options come with a ten-speed automatic transmission, as well as either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. Other engine options include a 3.3L V6, a 5.0L V8, a twin-turbocharged 3.5L V6, and a 3.0L diesel. The new hybrid powertrain includes a twin-turbocharged 3.5L V6 and a 35 kW electric motor. With this combination, Ford has stated that the truck should not only be able to go up to 700 miles on one tank of gas but also power an onboard generator for those who want to work out of their truck or need extra power on the job site.

This new hybrid option promises to be a powerful selling point, especially for those drivers who like eco-friendly options and extra power. This pairs very well with the other items included that appeal to people who either live in their truck or work on-site for extended periods, as the shift lever can fold down to provide a flat workspace, and the front seats can be made flat for a sleeping area, while the standard Wi-Fi hotspot is available for calls, meetings, etc.

What does this mean for a new Ford F-150 owner? It means you’ve got a multitude of choices for how and where you want to go, with little stopping you. You’ve got additional power, a place to sleep, a workspace, and internet. You can go almost anywhere, at any time, with no need for anything else except food and a place to take care of hygiene necessities. The New “Rattler” Trim Level

The Ford F-150 previously had only higher-level trims that could be equipped to go off-road, but for the 2023 Ford F-150, the new “Rattler” trim is just one level above the base level, which means the opportunity for off-road excursions has become more available to a wider consumer base. Rattlesnake logos abound on this model, but the important parts for off-roading include a locking rear differential, 18” wheels, hill-descent control, an off-road suspension system, and a dual exhaust system.
The 18” wheels are a step up from the stock 17” wheels that come standard. What’s so important about having that extra inch? When you’re off-roading, depending on what type of terrain you’re driving on, you’ll need extra clearance for going over rocks, through water, and through a variety of vegetation.

The dual exhaust system is helpful for off-roading because of its ability to push more exhaust out, thereby functioning as an air pump, leading to more horsepower available for the driver. When you’re going up and down hills, crossing sand, mud, or swampy ground, you’re going to need that extra boost of power.

What about the locking rear differential? Well, with the axles locked, you can use all the available torque at your disposal, which means you can rotate the tires at different speeds, especially handy when you’re mudding or crossing any sort of uneven ground. The off-road suspension and hill-descent control are pretty self-explanatory but vital if you’re going to be wandering off into the wilds.

Updated SYNC 4 Software

Ford’s SYNC 4 and 4A software has only been available for a few Ford models but recently received an upgrade and is available on the 2023 Ford F-150. What does it include? How easy is it to use? Does it work with your phone, apps, etc.?

With the newest Ford F-150, you’ve got options for bigger infotainment screens, from 8” to 15.5”. You’re also able to sync your phone no matter what platform it’s on. There’s Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a SYNC AppLink, and there’s no need to carry around a cord since the system is set up to be cord-free. There’s also a navigation system if you don’t want to use Waze or GoogleMaps, with the ability to provide up-to-date information on weather, traffic patterns, and construction projects.

Other features of the SYNC 4 include a cloud-based user manual that you can browse on the infotainment center, as well as SiriusXM 360L, which means no ads between your news radio, music selections, podcasts, talk radio, or sports. There’s also an available enhanced voice recognition if you’d like to use voice commands instead of trying to mash buttons while on the road.

You also get the Ford Power-Up program which utilizes cloud technology to provide software updates. While this might not seem like a big deal, it is important to have the ability to receive software updates in case of patches, bugs, and extra features. This allows the F-150 to remain technologically fresh, ensuring that any safety features or recalls are available to each driver.

When Will the 2023 Ford F-150 Hit the Pavement?

Ford has not released an exact date for the new Ford F-150 to start making appearances, but we’re expecting to see it appear on our lot starting in summer or early fall this year, possibly even as soon as July. A lot will depend on whether or not Ford has issues with getting supplies, as many vehicle companies have had to delay selling newer models because of slower shipments and fewer supplies. We’re hoping that nothing will slow down the 2023 F-150 rollout, as it is one of the most anticipated vehicles of the year.
